A group of professionals with illustrious background in different fields such as ecology, protected area management, security forces, crime control, media, civil service came together with the realization that conservation can be strengthened by independently backstopping the government in the field of conservation education, conservation policy, and strategy, biodiversity conservation, wildlife crime control, human-wildlife conflict, climate change issues, among others, by generating scientific information, policy analysis documents and advocacy. Hence, it was formally agreed in June 2024 to establish Conservation Alliance Nepal to work in the field of biodiversity conservation, conservation policy and strategy, wildlife crime control, human-wildlife conflict, environmental advocacy, and climate change issues.
CAN is a non-government, non-partisan and non-profit autonomous institution registered on August 16, 2024 (Shrawan 32, 2081) with the Kathmandu District Administration Office under the Social Organizations Registration Act 2034 BS (1977) and affiliated to the Social Welfare Council.
